The story
Oh boy, the plot starts out with our protagonist starting her first day at work. Abigail finds herself in a unique position as a Nercomancer for a food prcoessing company that has become a sensation. That sensation is of course using human zombie meat as a product for the masses to eat and enjoy. She is greeted by Jackson who promptly immediately uses her skills to work.
Her necromancy skills used in a incredibly basic way or a Mundane Utility. Her zombies rise up to their feet to only get mowed down and grinded into processed meet called Zombeef. Man, they're getting killed out there like freaking turkies for Thanksgiving here!
She meets the company manager who has nothing but praises for the work she's done for them in such a short amount of time through the mouth of Jackson. The company manager and the rest of the team cooked up a special meal for her, and it's... Zombeef Curry, their heart-hitting meal. Of course, Abigail has become increasing unsettled of what's become of her work and refuses to be tempted by the cooked human zombie meat.
Suddenly, just as she's about to finally dig in, one of the employees interrupts them to bring in some horrible news. A Surprisingly Realistic Outcome in the shape of health concerns and complaints about their food has arrived. Apparently fresh human corpses is costly to the point the company resorted to using expired ones.
You gotta think about it though, the idea of using human meat as food anywhere is just a red flag in the real world. Let alone repurposing dead bodies as a meal for all to eat. You just gotta love how inventive her writing is sometimes.
Jackson and the company manager pin the blame on Abigail and a chase ensues all over the building. She finds herself cornered but is led to a room of corpses by one of her zombies - intending to use their bodies like bullets. Girl just throws a bunch of dead bodies at fully armored security guards and just wins.
But it does not save her from becoming processed into meat herself. Both Jackson and the company manager find themselves in a bind as they can't find Abigail anywhere. With reproters hounding their butts like crazy, they promptly falsify their food issues as food terrorists harming their products with Abigail as the ringleader. Mocking her appearance and makeup just because.
With her body turned into a state of Zombeefy, Abigail is forced to sell herself as a product so she can get eaten and gain a new body. That just sounds like something Tetsuya Nomura would totally write.
She finds herself at a butcher's shop and displayed for all to see. She promptly forces the first customer to buy her despite the price range being too high for 200 grams of human meat, chasing them to the ends of the Earth like Spiderman and the Shocker.
So, she gets cooked to death and then possesses the customer's body and reshapes it into her previous body's form, pulling off a Grand Theft Me like Xehanort would do to everyone else in Organization XIII.
Meanwhile, Zombeef find themselves in another bind as Abigail has reported them to the police with health officials coming their way. But instead of them, Abigail confronts them first.
The company manager reveals his master plan - his reasons for creating Zombeef was to stop the burning of corpses from contributing to Global Warming, seeing both himself and Zombeef as Necessarily Evil and Anti-Villains. Citing that all those bodies should not be burned but eaten. I call bull on this because despite being a reasonable Anti-Villain in this series, the way he's acted towards Abigail has been nothing but monstruos and antagonistic, siccing his company onto her like hounds and publically turning her into a villain.
Then you have President Sanderson topping off the amount of bull pulled.
So, he reveals a new product that would allow people to become zombies and eats a ZOMSHOCK HAMBURGER. But he's already Half-Xehan-... a zombie. Fully intent of turning the entire population on Earth into zombies to stop Global Warming Since zombies do not create carbon dioxide and all for whatever reason.
The healthcare officials arrive on the scene just as the company manager is about to feast into Abigail's flesh. Dying as his dreams and goals are utterly crushed.
Abigail does an Aesop about the usage of dead bodies, citing that they're better off being used for organ donations. I mean, she's not wrong at all about that. But the problem in the real world is that does not happen often enough.
The characters
This entry's characters will be regulated down to two characters, the protagonist and the antagonist since they've had enough screentime that eclipses everyone else.
You've got a geniunely heroic protagonist in the name and body of Abigail, it's pretty light given what most of our leads do. Despite being a nercomancer and framed by Zombeef for causing problems she barely was apart of, she has been steady towards her goals of escaping and stopping Zombeef for their actions. She only dies once and lives because she's a necromancer and has a body count of three, with her actions being possessing a man and using his body to call the proper authorities.
And she even gets to do what most heroes do in their stories; confronting the Bid Bad and stopping them. She even gets to deliver a proper Aesop too!
Then you've got the antagonist of the story, Zombeef's company manager. The dude presents himself as chill and welcoming man but quickly drops that in favor of saving Zombeef from a Surprisingly Realistic Outcome in the form of bad complaints and bad health effects of using human zombie meat and expired ones at that. He promptly opts to pull a Stuffed into the Fridge on Abigail at the suggestion of Jackson.
Forcing her to go on the run - once he can't find her, he makes up a story about why Zombeef has problems and that Abigail is behind it. The dude has the balls to make fun of her appearance and make up of all things too.
His grand plan is sensible if we're going by the logic of Kuniko Takahashi. While his plan to stop Global Warming is to stop the world from burning corpses, he is completely nuts for wanting to turn everyone into zombies through cannibalism. The world does face the ever-ongoing crisis of Global Warming, and all we do is burn things down to their atoms.
Have you guys seen the junkyards or those places with hills of tires burning on TV?
Anyways, you won't get to see someone as sensible as him almost at all after this entry. Almost everyone is a Card-Carrying Villain if we're talking about the antagonists. Just look at President Sanderson.
Overall
Give this entry a good watch and try. It's got everything you need to enjoy the Mad Genius of Kawagoe without going too insane and wacky.
The premise of the story is interesting with the entire concept of a company like Zombeef existing. You've got some decent jokes in the form of Zombeef's entire existence, a clear cut protagonist and antagonist to boot, an intersting story with unique twists along the way, and entertaining characters.
Like come on, Zombeef sounds awfully like Zombie.
